Your Talent Has Limits
Introducing a new publication on actionable strategies for the creative economy.

Throughout the creative economy and cultural sector, we continue to see a familiar pattern: Highly talented artists, visionary organizations, and forward-thinking creative entrepreneurs struggling—not for lack of ability, but for lack of infrastructure.
Talent alone is not sufficient. Without systems, strategy, and long-term support, even the most promising work remains unrealized.
About Me
Some of you reading this know me and my work. For those who don’t: I’ve spent the last 20 years designing, leading, and scaling initiatives that address structural gaps in cultural sectors. I’ve founded and co-founded a range of interdisciplinary ventures—including a strategic marketing firm (Olu & Company), an experimental curatorial platform (Young Curators, New Ideas), Detroit’s first contemporary art fair and week (Season Fair, Detroit Art Week), nonprofit initiatives supporting artists and photographers (Humble Arts Foundation), a conference and magazine shop dedicated to print culture (Periodicals, Case Sensitive), and a record label and collective (48208 WORLD and Vanguard Detroit) committed to preserving and advancing Detroit’s musical legacy.
I’ve advised businesses, organizations, and individuals on how to grow their audiences, deepen their impact, and build sustainable models.
My work is grounded in a belief that creativity is not a luxury—it is essential. Yet the systems that support creative labor remain fragmented, under-resourced, and inequitable. This Substack is a space to examine those conditions and share solutions.

Why This Exists
We are in a critical moment. The arts are under pressure. Funding is shrinking. Traditional models—many of which were never inclusive to begin with—are breaking down. New forms of leadership, infrastructure, and strategic thinking are urgently needed.
There is no standardized infrastructure for the creative economy. No shared operating systems. No safety net. No clear, equitable pathway to sustainability.
Too often, those who find success protect what they’ve learned instead of sharing it. Information is hoarded. Networks are gated. Scarcity becomes strategy. As a result, talented individuals undercharge, make uninformed decisions, or exhaust themselves building systems that were never designed to support them.
That has to change.
This newsletter is about knowledge transfer, transparency, and capacity-building—for people committed to reshaping the creative landscape. I’m sharing what I’ve learned openly and without gatekeeping to equip artists, cultural leaders, and innovative entrepreneurs with actionable tools, frameworks, and reflections to navigate a complex and rapidly changing ecosystem.
Because the creative and cultural sector deserves better—and so do you.
